Yield

To YIELD is to surrender or submit to a higher power. With the arrival of Autumn, change is in the air. As Mother Nature wields her power every season, she creates change. And we have no say in it...the seasons will change no matter what we want, think or do. Embrace the energy that comes with each new season, so you can empower yourself to create newness in your own life. Fall in love with change.

Yoga Pose: Sunbird Pose

Yield to the yin/yang of life with this unstable, yet stable, balance challenging and core strengthening pose.

Foundation. Start kneeling on all fours in a table position. Knees should be hip width apart with the tops of your feet on the earth. Hands flat on the earth, slightly forward of the shoulders and shoulder width apart. Fingers spread wide apart and elbows straight. Lengthen your spine. Set your intention.

Move. On an inhalation, extend your left leg straight out behind you, keeping your hip level. Engage your core and do not allow your midsection to sag towards the earth.

Legs. Activate your quads, flex your left foot and press out firmly through the left heel. If you need to, curl the toes of the right foot under to act as a kickstand to provide more stability.

Arms. On an inhalation, float your right arm up. Extend it straight out in front of you with your fingers extended and the thumb pointing up to the sky.

Gaze. Soften your gaze and look slightly forward. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Exhale to come out of the pose by releasing your right arm down, placing your hand firmly on the earth. Set your right knee back down to return to a table position.
